The Department of English, in collaboration with the Center for International Affairs (GCiA), successfully hosted an engaging workshop titled “Beyond Borders: Your Guide to Higher Education Abroad” on 6 August 2025. It inspired current students and alumni on securing scholarships and assistantships for study abroad. 60 participants, including seniors, juniors, and alumni, gathered in A-302 to learn from a successful fellow graduate.

The session was co-hosted by two student representatives. Mohammad Golam Mohiuddin, Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of GCiA, offered a warm welcome. Esmot Ara Choity, Junior Officer at GCiA, was also present, ensuring smooth coordination throughout the session.

Following the welcome, Dr. Md. Shamim Mondal, Chairperson of the Department of English, delivered an inspiring address. He introduced the resource speaker, Md Raisul Islam, with great pride, referring to him as “one of our own”.

The keynote speaker, Md Raisul Islam (Batch 173), exemplified perseverance and strategic planning. Having secured admission to the MA in English program at Idaho State University (Fall 2025) with a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, Raisul shared key milestones from his journey including:

● Focused IELTS preparation

● Timely and strong applications

● Simplified visa process

● Honest insights on funding and costs

In his engaging and down-to-earth presentation, Md. Raisul shared his complete journey, speaking in a friendly, brotherly tone that captivated the audience.

A lively Q&A followed, with students asking insightful questions. Raisul’s advice:“Start early, stay persistent, and leverage your network”.

Dr. Elham Hossain, Associate Professor and Director of GCiA, delivered a heartfelt closing speech, applauding the Department of English for its proactive role in preparing students for global academic pursuits.

Md Raisul Islam was honored with a certificate and crest for his inspiring contribution. The absence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shorif Uddin was noted with gratitude for his continued support.
